Cast your vote: Do you favor allowing backyard chickens inside the Bossier City limits?
City councilmembers said they wanted to hear from residents: here's your chance.
At Tuesday’s meeting, the Bossier City Council introduced an ordinance amending a law that banned raising poultry within the city limits.
During the discussion — which comes up for a final vote on November 4 — councilmembers said they wanted to hear what residents thought.
“I don’t have a problem if somebody wants to have chickens in their yard,” District 3’s Cliff Smith said. “But … when I was elected back in March … I was elected to represent everybody in District 3. So today I’m a ‘yes,’” Smith said. “But if anyone is opposed to it, if you are in favor of it, that gives you two weeks to reach out to us and state your opinions on this.”
“I’ve only heard from four or five people as of today about the chickens … which unfortunately is about four or five more phone calls than I received about the budget that we’re about to do today,” at-large councilmember Craton Cochran said. “So if that tells you anything about your city, it tells me something. I promised you I wasn’t going to be the vote to kill it today and I’m under the impression that it may end up being a 3-3 vote.”
Let the councilmembers hear your opinion by voting in the poll above.

As far as roosters are concerned a rooster provides protection, reduces stress and conflict within the flock, will even sacrifice himself to save one of them. He makes them feel safe.
I think having chickens is a wonderful idea as long as the number is limited to a reasonable number ( 6-8). Children learn valuable lessons from taking care of them, they eat up to 4 lbs of mosquitoes/ larvae a day each( great pest control!), they are clean, smart and provide a healthy breakfast ! They are easy to care for, inexpensive and go to bed before the sun is down. I’m all for it!
