Construction begins on long-awaited new Bossier park
A masterplan was finalized and work was expected to begin five years ago, but construction on a new Bossier park is finally underway.
Kingston Park, at the intersection of Kingston Road and Fairburn Avenue, will rise from a currently undeveloped green space. Crews have already cleared portions of the land to level the construction area. A base is being laid for a walking trail.
Plans for the two-acre park include a large practice field, a scenic asphalt walking trail that winds through beautiful shade trees with benches nearby, four spacious pavilions, and a restroom. There is an area designated for a future playground.
Subdivisions and a number of apartments are within walking distance of the park, and Fairburn Avenue provides access to both Kingston Elementary School, which is located just south of the park, and Benton High School.
White Oak ditch improvements continue in Dogwood South neighborhood
The Bossier Parish Police Jury has unanimously approved the awarding of the White Oak Ditch Improvements Phase Two project to Sam’s Construction for $278,261.23, marking a major step forward in improving drainage infrastructure in the Dogwood South neighborhood.
The project is part of a broader initiative to enhance flood control and stormwater management in the growing Haughton community. Phase Two will build on previous improvements to help protect homes and maintain the quality of life for residents.
District 8 Police Juror Doug Rimmer, who represents the Dogwood South area, emphasized the importance of the project for local homeowners.
“These improvements will make a real difference for families in Dogwood South,” Rimmer said. “Better drainage means less risk of flooding, fewer maintenance issues, and greater peace of mind for our residents. It’s a smart investment in the future of the neighborhood.”
With the contract now awarded, construction is expected to begin soon.

Bossier traffic notice: Lane closure I-20 at Hwy 157 in Haughton
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development says that beginning this morning, Friday, August 22, 2025 at approximately 8:00 am, the I-20 eastbound off-ramp (left lane) to LA 157 northbound near the Haughton will be closed.
This closure is scheduled to be in place until approximately 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 24, 2025, and affects only the left lane to LA 157 northbound.
The off-ramp itself will remain open, along with the right lane to LA 157 southbound. The LA 157 overpass over I-20 will also remain open.
This lane closure is necessary to allow for roadway pavement repairs related to the ongoing LA 3227/LA 157 Realignment Phase 2 project at the nearby intersection.
