Is this the most-needed right turn lane in Bossier? You’ll have to wait for relief, though
You know those confounding intersections where there is no right-turn lane, and traffic clogs up as you (patiently?) wait your turn to turn? Got one in mind in your Bossier neighborhood?
Well, one such intersection will get some relief, but you'll have to wait a while.
Northbound Airline Drive at Swan Lake Road is on the list for a right turn lane. At Wednesday's meeting, the Bossier Parish Police Jury approved an engineering proposal for planning of the project.
"This was a project that was identified in the capacity improvements study that we had done, and it's something that many of y'all have asked me about before this study was done," parish engineer Eric Hudson told the BPPJ. "So what I was wanting to do was get this proposal and get some surveying and design started so that I can get a decent budget number for '26. If we have money in '26, we'd like to construct that right turn lane."
Under the proposal, the intersection would have a left turn lane, two straight through lanes, and a dedicated right turn lane.
If the turn lane is not included in next year's budget, Hudson said the turn lane could be pushed to 2027.
SoBo walking trail just days away from opening
The new South Bossier Park walking trail is days away from being open to the public.
The trail, funded by the state, is in it's final stages of construction, with mulch being spread on the base.
"It's looking good," Parish Engineer Eric Hudson said at the BPPJ meeting. "Allen [Wood] and his group is putting some mulch on it right now. So it should be ready for cross-country season coming up soon."
When will the trail be open for the public?
"I believe he has a couple more loads of mulch to put out and spread. So I would say within a couple weeks," Hudson replied at Wednesday's meeting.
Hwy 80 overlay only weeks from completion
A busy Bossier road serving up to 26,000 vehicles on an average day is about to wrap up work ahead of schedule.
A five-mile stretch of Highway 80 in Bossier Parish that has received an asphalt overlay was expected to be completed in early 2026. The DOTD says the contractor is ahead of schedule and will wrap up work next month.
The $8.4 million project began in April, with full-depth patching and new asphalt added from Flat River near Bossier Parish Community College to Merrywoods Blvd. in Haughton.
All paving is completed and the contractor is currently installing striping and signage, as well as traffic signal loop detectors.
