A suspect who fled a traffic stop caused Bossier Parish Community College to be put on lockdown early this morning. Now, the man remains at large.
BPCC remains closed for the day to ensure the safety and well-being of all students, faculty, and staff. Normal operations will resume on Friday, October 17th.
“The safety of our students, faculty, and staff is always our highest priority,” said Dr. Rick Bateman, Jr., Chancellor of Bossier Parish Community College. “I’m proud of how our campus community responded today—with calm, cooperation, and trust in our safety procedures. I also want to express our deep gratitude to our Campus Police, Louisiana State Police, and local law enforcement for their swift and professional actions that kept our community safe.”
BCPD Sergeant Shawn Poudrier tells BossierNow that, as of 1:20 pm Thursday, the suspect remains at large.
Police have widened their search, and Apollo and Airline schools have been put on “high alert,” Poudrier said. Law enforcement has been reported searching the North Pointe apartments area off Benton Road.
Poudrier said Louisiana State Police engaged in a vehicle pursuit earlier this morning with a suspected stolen vehicle.
“They were able to get the vehicle stopped across the street from Bossier Parish Community College. Three suspects fled on foot. They were able to capture two. One was seen coming back across the road toward Bossier Parish Community College. He was pulling on doors,” Sgt. Poudrier added.
A search for the suspect on the campus was unsuccessful.
Additional details will be provided as further information is received.
