Bossier Parish Police Jury’s ‘26 budget projects $570,000 decrease in general fund
A small drop in revenue and a tiny increase in expenses are adding up to a projected 2026 decline in the primary fund of the Bossier Parish Police Jury.
Even with new income of $500,000 from Live! Casino next year, BPPJ is forecasting a 3% decrease in revenue for its General Fund. A 1% increase in expenses — including 4% across-the-board pay raises to Parish employees — will contribute to a $572,870 projected decrease in the fund by the end of 2026.
Still, the fund balance will remain above $7 million.
Capital improvement costs funded by sales taxes are increasing by over $2 million in ‘26, with $3.7 million dedicated to Bossier Parish courthouse improvements.
Jurors will hold a December 3 public hearing on the budget.
Residential fire quickly contained in Haughton Saturday
Saturday afternoon, around 1:00 pm, the Haughton Fire Department was dispatched to the 1200 block of Dry Creek in Haughton for a residential structure fire.
Bossier Parish Fire District #1 and South Bossier Parish Fire District 2 were also dispatched for mutual aid.
The fire started on the outside of the home and traveled up into the attic area where it was contained by responding personnel.
No occupants or emergency personnel were injured.
‘Kids Shoot for Youth Charities’ raises $70,000; winners announced

The Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office says the “Kids Shoot for Youth Charities” event held on Saturday, October 18, 2025 was a “tremendous success.”
“Thanks to the generous support of sponsors, participants, and volunteers, the event raised an impressive $70,000 for local youth charities,” BPSO said in a release.
The funds will benefit several deserving organizations, including The Easter Seals, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, The March of Dimes, The Gingerbread House, and Shriners Children’s.
Participants enjoyed a day of friendly competition, great shooting, and camaraderie under a beautiful fall sky. The event also featured numerous door prizes and raffle drawings, with one lucky participant taking home a new shotgun and another winning a handgun.
Sheriff Julian Whittington expressed his gratitude for the outstanding turnout and community spirit displayed throughout the day.
“This event shows what can be accomplished when people come together for a great cause. The generosity of our community continues to amaze me, and every dollar raised will go toward helping children who truly need it,” the Sheriff said.

This year’s individual winners were also recognized for their outstanding marksmanship:
Junior Division: 1st place – Brody Aultman, 2nd place – Aiden Umling, 3rd place – Wesley Rollins
Senior Division: 1st place – Bo Bailey, 2nd place – Andrew Foster, 3rd place – Wes Hardy
The Sheriff’s Office extends its sincere appreciation to all sponsors, volunteers, and participants who made this year’s event such a success.
