Bossier City weekend: Zach’s country, Wanda’s comedy, and Trunk or Treats!
He’s on a mission to bring traditional country music back in style. She’s known for her caustic wit and social commentary. Both events are taking place on separate stages in Bossier City, while Trunk or Treats round out the weekend fun.
Zach Top will kick the weekend off tonight at 8 pm at the Brookshire Grocery Arena. Top brings his “Cold Beer & Country Music” tour to the BGA, featuring a 90s-inspired sound that is a throwback to another generation of country music.
In a music landscape often dominated by pop-infused country, Zach Top has carved out a dedicated following by staying true to the genre’s roots. Drawing heavy inspiration from icons like George Strait, Keith Whitley, and Randy Travis, Top’s music is rich with fiddle, steel guitar, and heartfelt storytelling. His debut album, “Cold Beer & Country Music,” has been a breakout success, praised for its traditional arrangements and clever songwriting.
And Top posted a surprise for fans on social media:
“I want all my fans to have the opportunity to see my shows! So if you weren’t able to get a ticket yet, come out to the box office on the day of the show for a chance to grab tickets for $25 while supplies last! Can’t wait to see ya there!” Top said.
The b1BANK Box Office will be open today at 10 am — limit two tickets per person. Doors are scheduled to open at 6:30 p.m.
Saturday, it’s sharp, unapologetic, and uproarious comedy as the legendary Wanda Sykes brings her “Please & Thank You Tour” to the Riverdome at the Horseshoe Casino. Known for her razor-sharp social commentary and iconic voice, Sykes promises a night of laughter that pulls no punches.
For decades, Wanda Sykes has been a powerhouse in the comedy world. From her Emmy-winning writing on The Chris Rock Show to her scene-stealing roles in shows like Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Upshaws, she has cemented her status as a comedic titan.
Her stand-up specials, including the critically acclaimed I’m an Entertainer on Netflix, are masterclasses in observational humor, tackling everything from politics and family life to the absurdities of modern culture with a perspective that is both refreshingly honest and hilariously relatable.
Joining Sykes is special guest Keith Robinson. Robinson is a veteran of the stand-up circuit, known for his smooth, conversational style and masterful storytelling.
And for the kids this weekend, there are Trunk or Treats.
At the Asbury United Methodist Church Pumpkin Patch, the Trail Lizards Jeep Club will host a three-hour Trunk or Treat event Sunday from 4 pm until 7 pm.
The Barksdale Airman’s Attic will host a TorT from 3 pm to 5 pm Sunday at 431 Wilbur Wright Dr., Building 4030 on Barksdale Air Force Base. Plus, hot dogs, chips, and drinks will be served. Cash prizes will be awarded for the best trunks, and candy will be provided for all entries.
Barksdale Customs at 2674 Barksdale Blvd. will host a TorT Saturday from 3:30 pm to 6 pm. Bring your ride, bring your crew, and bring the kids for some Trunk or Treat fun!
Inside Barksdale AFB: Barksdale B-52s buzz Venezuela coast as Trump raises heat on Maduro
In a significant show of force, B-52 Stratofortress bombers from Barksdale Air Force Base conducted flights this week in international airspace off the coast of Venezuela.
The missions are the latest in a series of moves by President Donald Trump to intensify pressure on the government of Nicolás Maduro, which the White House has increasingly labeled the leader of a “narcoterrorist” regime.
The Venezuelan government has vehemently condemned the U.S. military presence in the region, denouncing it as an act of intimidation and a violation of its sovereignty. In response to the B-52 flights, Maduro’s government has reportedly placed its armed forces on high alert.
The long-range, heavy bombers were observed flying orbits in the Caribbean Sea, a clear message of American military capability just miles from Venezuelan shores. U.S. Southern Command characterized the flights as part of ongoing efforts to combat illicit drug trafficking in the region.
However, the presence of the strategic bombers, capable of carrying a wide array of conventional and nuclear munitions, is being widely interpreted as a direct signal to Maduro and his inner circle.
The flights are part of a broader U.S. military buildup in the Caribbean. The Trump administration has deployed an increased number of naval warships and surveillance aircraft to the region in an effort to interdict drug shipments.
President Trump recently confirmed that he has authorized covert operations by the Central Intelligence Agency in Venezuela and has not ruled out the possibility of land-based military action. This aggressive stance follows a string of lethal strikes by U.S. forces on suspected drug-smuggling vessels in the Caribbean.
The Trump administration has framed its actions as a necessary response to the threat posed by drug cartels operating in and around Venezuela. In August, the administration doubled the bounty for information leading to the capture of Maduro to $50 million.
BPCC put on lockdown Thursday; suspect who fled traffic stop remains at large
A suspect who fled a traffic stop caused Bossier Parish Community College to be put on lockdown early Thursday. Now, the man remains at large.
BCPD Sergeant Shawn Poudrier told BossierNow that the Louisiana State Police engaged in a vehicle pursuit early Thursday with a suspected stolen vehicle.
“They were able to get the vehicle stopped across the street from Bossier Parish Community College. Three suspects fled on foot. They were able to capture two. One was seen coming back across the road toward Bossier Parish Community College. He was pulling on doors,” Sgt. Poudrier added.
A search for the suspect on the campus was unsuccessful.
Police widened their search, and Apollo and Airline schools were put on “high alert,” Poudrier said. Law enforcement was reported searching the North Pointe apartments area off Benton Road.
Poudrier tells BossierNow that the suspect remains at large.
