Bossier City weekend: Get down tonight
It's time to bust out your dusty old boogie shoes. Tonight, Friday, August 15, the venerable KC and the Sunshine Band will take the stage at the Riverdome inside the Horseshoe Casino & Hotel, promising a night of classic disco hits.
Since bursting onto the scene in the mid-1970s, KC and the Sunshine Band have been synonymous with good times and infectious rhythms. Led by founder and frontman Harry Wayne Casey, or "KC," the group created an enduring sound that helped define the disco era. Their chart-topping singles included "Get Down Tonight," "That's the Way (I Like It)," and "Shake, Shake, Shake (Shake Your Booty)."
The band's classic lineup of horns, percussion, and soulful vocals remain a staple on dance floors and at parties worldwide. Tonight’s performance at the Riverdome is a chance for fans to experience that energy live and in person.
Age 21+ admission only. Get tickets here.
Bossier man still missing after intensive air and ground search
After three days of intensive searching, the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office has suspended the ground search for 32-year-old Cable Tallant, who has been missing for several days near Plain Dealing.
The search effort mobilized extensive resources, including K-9 units, drones, and a helicopter provided by the DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office. Involved in the search were dozens of Bossier Sheriff's Deputies, Louisiana State Troopers, Bossier City Police Department, Bossier City Fire Department, Northeast Bossier Fire Department, Northwest Bossier Fire Department, East 80 Fire Department, South Bossier Fire Department, Bossier Parish EMT, Bossier Parish 911, ArkLaTex K-9 Search and Rescue, and other dedicated volunteers.
Despite combing through difficult terrain and following every lead, search teams were unable to locate Tallant.
Sheriff Julian Whittington said the decision to suspend the search "was not made lightly."
"We have put all available resources into the ground search, and while that phase is now suspended, our investigation is far from over. We will continue to run down any and all leads until we find answers for Mr. Tallant's family," Whittington added.
The Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office urges anyone with information about Cable Tallant's whereabouts to come forward. Tallant is described as a white male, approximately 6 feet tall, weighing about 150 pounds.
If you have seen him or have any knowledge of his location, please contact the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office at (318) 965-2203.
Drawdown of Lake Bistineau includes oranges and weevils
This year’s drawdown of Lake Bistineau is underway, and the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says it will provide valuable benefits for salvinia control.
This year's effort will also include the use of oranges and weevils.
During the drawdown, LDWF will be performing a water flow study by releasing oranges near the Burges Camp area. Oranges have been utilized by the scientific community as a cost-effective, pollution-free method for tracking water movements.
Contact LDWF if you spot one of the tagged oranges with the date and location at AquaticPlantControl@wlf.la.gov, and return it to the water.
In the coming weeks, the department will also be releasing salvinia weevils to help further combat giant salvinia. These weevils have survived the winter in central Louisiana waterbodies and may have an increased cold tolerance compared to weevils released in the past.
Additional control efforts will include continued herbicide treatments, strategic use of boom (floating barriers), and the use of cutting-edge drone technology to identify problem areas.
You can learn more about salvinia and the LDWF Aquatic Plant Control Program here.
