Backyard chickens remain banned in Bossier City
Backyard chickens remain banned within the Bossier City limits. The Bossier City Council rejected an ordinance, sponsored by District 1 councilmember Brian Hammons, to reverse the existing ban on raising poultry at residences within the city.
The measure was defeated 5 to 2, with Hammons and Council President Chris Smith the only ‘yes’ votes.
In other business, the council:
Gave final approval for all-way stop controls at the intersections of Barberry Lane and Pampus Drive and at Anita Street and Impala Drive.
Approved increasing the water rates for fire hydrant meters and at the bulk water filling station. (“This is not anything to do with stationary meters at people’s homes,” Marissa Jones, the City Water Billing Supervisor, previously told the council. “This is strictly pertaining to the filling station. This is where contractors who are building or who are doing contracting in Bossier City will come and fill up their trucks. And also for the fire hydrant meters. These are mobile meters for contractors who are specially licensed to be able to use it and require a special permit.”
Approved limiting financial contributions to $20,000 for charitable, civic, cultural, and educational organizations and establishing procedures for accountability as to how the donations are spent.
Gave final authorization for $60,000 to hire the firm of Carr, Riggs and Ingram to perform the City’s Tax Reduction Audit.
The council will hold a public hearing on the 2026 Operating and Capital Budgets on November 11, 2025, at 3:00 pm. A vote on possible adoption will be held following the meeting.

BPCC Cavaliers claim first victory of the 2025–2026 season under new head coach
A new era of men’s basketball is off to a strong start as the Bossier Parish Community College Cavaliers captured their first victory of the 2025–2026 season — and the first under new Head Coach Jeff Moore — with an impressive 105–78 win at home over Centenary College JV of Shreveport Monday night.
The Cavaliers delivered an electric performance on both ends of the court, showcasing Moore’s up-tempo style and team-oriented approach. Led by standout efforts across the roster, BPCC controlled the game from the opening tip-off and never looked back.
Zequan “Z” Lewis led all scorers with 24 points, along with 8 rebounds and 3 steals, setting the tone offensively. Tony Montgomery came close to a triple-double, recording 22 points, 10 assists, 8 rebounds, and 4 steals in a dynamic all-around performance.
Drew Cooper contributed 19 points on an efficient 70% shooting, adding 6 rebounds, while Mazin Lumori knocked down three of five from beyond the arc for 11 points. Dustin Welch controlled the glass with 9 rebounds to go with 5 points, and Stafford Bailey added 8 points to round out the Cavaliers’ balanced scoring effort.
Coach Moore praised the team’s energy and execution following their first win.
“This was a total team effort,” Moore said. “Every player contributed, every possession mattered, and that’s exactly the way we’re going to approach every game this season. This win is just the beginning of what we’re building here, and I couldn’t be prouder of this team.”

Bossier Parish to honor veterans at centuries-old celebration Friday
A storied military tradition that dates back hundreds of years will unfold at 10 am on Friday, November 7, 2025, at the Bossier Parish Community College Billy Montgomery Gymnasium, when District 5 Louisiana State Representative Dennis Bamburg, Bossier Schools, and BPCC host a Veterans Tattoo Ceremony.
The event is free and everyone is invited to attend.
The Military Tattoo traces its origins to the 17th century, when the Dutch Army sent drummers into towns to announce that it was time to return to the barracks. The process was known as “Doe Den Tap Toe,” old Dutch for “turn off the taps.” However, the troops only heard “Tap Toe,” which in time was shortened to “Tattoo.”
The event will include performances by students throughout Bossier Schools in the Talented Arts Program, Band, Drum Corps and Air Force Junior ROTC. There will also be a simulated enlistment ceremony, final roll call, Taps and more.
