Backyard chickens or no? Bossier City Council to make final call today
The Bossier City Council will take a final vote today on amending an ordinance that bans raising poultry in the city limits.
The ordinance, sponsored by District 1 councilmember Brian Hammons, was the matter of much discussion two weeks ago.
“We did this about three years ago and I went to sites and there’s some in Greenacres. I ain’t saying they won’t keep it clean but some people don’t keep it clean,” Distinct 5’s Vince Maggio said. “It was really a mess. The yard smelled. No grass in the backyard. It was really bad. You figure two people or three might keep it. The other ones ain’t gonna keep it clean. That’s why I couldn’t vote for it.”
District 3’s Cliff Smith and at-large councilmember Craton Cochran were noncommittal, saying they needed to hear from their constituents before making a decision.
The council meets at 3:00 pm today at City Council Chambers in Bossier City Hall at 620 Benton Road.

Boil advisory issued for some Haughton residents
A boil water advisory is in effect for residents on the 3500 block of Ginger Drive in the Dogwood Subdivision. This precaution was issued after a construction crew damaged a water line in the area.
Bossier Parish Consolidated Waterworks/Sewerage District No. 1 temporarily shut off water service while repairs are underway.
Until further notice, residents are urged to:
Boil water for at least one minute before drinking or using.
Use boiled or bottled water for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, and food prep.
The Louisiana Department of Health is testing water samples. The advisory will remain in place until results confirm the water is safe.
