State authorities said that shortly after 1 pm Thursday afternoon, 911 emergency systems were disabled due to “a major fiber cut within the telephone system outside of the general area.”
The issue resulted in a 9-1-1 outage over most of Louisiana and Mississippi.
Those with non-emergency issues were asked to refrain from calling first responders until the issue was resolved.
Authorities said there is no indication that the outage was a malicious act.
