An apparent break-in into a Bossier City residence has resulted in one man dead in the Coleman Park neighborhood, adjacent to R.V. Kerr Elementary School.

At 5:25 a.m. Sunday, Bossier City police officers and firefighters responded to a report of a shooting at a residence in the 3000 block of June Lane.

“First responders located a man who sustained a gunshot wound to the chest. The man was transported to LSU Oschner Health hospital where he was later pronounced deceased,” Bossier City Police public information officer Traci Landry said in a release.

“The initial investigation by detectives indicates that the homeowner shot the man as he was trying to break into the residence,” Landry added.

The man shot is identified as Richard Bernard Williams, 26 years-old, of Bossier City. Detectives collected evidence that Williams was forcibly attempting to enter the house when he was shot by the homeowner, BCPD said.

Once the investigation by the Bossier City Police Department is complete, the findings will be turned over to the Bossier Parish District Attorney’s Office for review.
