Tuesday morning, social media was abuzz with news of a person jumping off the Jimmie Davis Bridge. Traffic was snarled at the legendary choke point linking Bossier City and Shreveport.
Social media reports said witnesses saw someone jump off the bridge, but law enforcement officials say no evidence of a jumper was found.
“Just prior to 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 19, 2019, Bossier City Police dispatch received a call of someone leaning over the Jimmie Davis Bridge railing,” BCPD public information officer Traci Landry tells BossierNow. “Officers responded to the area and found that the bridge and the surrounding area was clear of pedestrians.”
Landry says the bridge was closed to traffic during the investigation.
“While police worked to substantiate the call, the Bossier City Fire Department launched a boat to search the water. Using their SONAR equipment, BCFD did not locate any signs of a person in the water,” Landry added.
The Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office, Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office and Shreveport Police Department assisted in the investigation.
